The spirits are all abuzz this season, as there seems to have been a slight mishap with Hades' retrieval of his dear wife Persephone. The spirits contend this is why we continue to see odd temperatures and intermittent storms during the wrong time of year: the lord of Beyond has gone too long without his lady, and he is grumpy about it.
Seeking Persephone... best indie Kickstarter series?
I'm a regular on Kickstarter, and not just as a creator. I've backed more books than I can count, gadgets, and films. Three films in particular; one had zombies, one featured lindy hop, and lately, a book-turned mini-series that swept the bookstagram world: Seeking Persephone.
This was a delightful mini-series, and I have to say, it was Hallmark Movie quality regarding costumes, sets, etc. Pretty impressive for a crowdfunded campaign! And it sounds like the remaining two seasons (books in the series) are also planned, which is good, because I really wanted more of the best friend, Harry. Some of the best moments were with Harry being a nuisance, or our hero and heroine telling him to shut up.
It's really difficult to portray modern emotions within proper period constraints. If you're a fan of Bridgerton, just know that the Netflix series, and even the books, take liberties with historical accuracy for our entertainment. So if the actors feel stiff, it might be because they would have been... agreeing to marry without having seen each other? And then our duke is aghast to find his wife is...pretty?!
Which, speaking of visual details, I've been wearing glasses with special lenses that prevent too much blue or UV light from bothering my eyes. I forgot I was wearing them, so I was delightfully charmed by how warm visual aesthetic. It was the warmth needed to make the actors and scenery a little more approachable.
And then I wiped my glasses, looked up, and realized the film was shot in the typical flat blue style that you get when using digital cameras. So here's my hot take: we need to bring back the warming filter on our movies. I miss the way people looked before 2010 on film. And it's not like we can't do it... if Instagram can give me a warming filter, then I'm certain the movie industry can handle it.
All that to say, if you can find some orange lenses, use them to watch your movies and make autumn feel like an even more, better, autumn. It's the last season before Persephone joins her husband Hades in the Beyond (I'm taking severe liberties with Greek mythology/religion), so let's enjoy it to the fullest.
The latest author particulars
- Writing: I wrote a short story for the Cozy and Bookish anthology. It's my take on how Mr. and Mrs. Bennet got together... if they lived in Victorian Ohio and had magic.
- Illustrating: The vibe of my latest illustration of Dhru is something along the lines of, "I hate so much about the things you choose to be." I couldn't stop chuckling.
- Reading: Restoring Your Old House because my delulu dream of one day saving a Victorian-era house to make it a short term rental and home away from home seems not so delulu anymore.
- Patreon recap: Paid members are reading chapters of An Uncanny Bargain as we speak.
- Watching: In with the Old on HBO Max, because what's more inspiring than watching a couple buy an old farm and renovate it into something beautiful again?
- Podcast: I waxed poetical about why Mr. Gardiner from Pride & Prejudice is parenting goals.
- Kickstarter: I've sent back my edits for An Uncanny Bargain, and I'm happy to say my editor loved it. All that pre-work paid off, big time.
- Upcoming: Visit with me on Oct 24 at the Madewell Boos & Cruisin' mini-market in Troy, OH. I bought a car there, once. In Troy, I mean.
