Things to keep in mind about publishing. A series of reputable articles (there are about seven of them right now, and more coming in the future) that every writer should be familiar with.

Haha! What a lovely read. Fans of The Princess Bride will surely enjoy this ridiculous romp. I certainly got lost among all the names of the lady pirates, and the stylized dialogue was such that it almost didn't matter who was speaking. Regardless, it was funny, quirky, charming, and entirely self-aware of "only being a romance." I thoroughly enjoyed this. It is exactly the sort of escapist Victorian nonsense (said with loving tones) I hope to write myself.
I'm reading @tillywallaceauthor's series again and decided to add it to @readerly_books, which is kinda like Goodreads and BookBub in one. I don't always post there, but if you want join in the fun, my handle is @worderella. You get 200 characters to give the "gist" of the book. I'd like to see a tropes library rather having to type everything out (similar to BookBub), and it would be cool if it connected with Goodreads, or directly with Kindle or Nook so I didn't have to manually say when I'm reading something. Otherwise, it's a fun little reader app, and it creates images like this for quick sharing!
I took a picture to make it last longer, because as soon as I get deep into a project all the flat surfaces get covered with piles of paper. This area is about 1/2 the size of a typical bedroom. On the left is my writing planner inventory (Etsy / Brightbirdpress.com) and shipping station, the middle highlights my Civil War era writing desk, and the right has bookshelves organized by topic. I added pin legs to make the tops of the shelves standing height and for additional storage underneath. My whiteboard sits above the right most shelf, and I have four books super loosely defined, and one photography client on tap to receive pregnancy shoot soon-ish. I do have a full-time job and I'm mother to two under five. So if you're wondering why it takes me so long to release new books... It's because I have the classic case of everything interests me. Did I mention I launched Brightbirdpress.com, my off-Etsy store for my writer and reader journals? Check the journals link in my profile and let me know your thoughts 💕
The sound of my squee required muting. I've always wanted to see my book in hardcover, and for it to be a LINEN hardcover makes it that much more fancy and special. I'm now tempted to make a casebound version just to have the comparison. This was printed through @luludotcom and I have to say, I'm pleased.
Hey, so my undated year-long all-in-one writer's planner dropped in my shop today. It's something I've been working on quietly and I'm thrilled about his soft launch. This planner is a lovely little beastie, about the same dimensions as a thick classic size Happy Planner, with workbook pages to plan out two fiction projects, your author brand and marketing intentions, monthly and quarterly goals, self-care bingo, budget and writing milestones, a month-long (30 day) writing challenge, plus regular weekly and monthly planner pages with dedicated spaces to remind you to do one thing for your writing each week and month, and more.
Dropped the kids at my parents, threw on a mask, and left the house for my husband to enjoy. I haven't written in a coffee shop for over three years. There is something about the energy which helps me focus as I sit tucked away in a corner, totally terrified by everyone's germs, but driven to be here out of creative desperation. 🤣 In a departure from my other historical fantasy books, my playlist for A Spirited Engagement includes Missy Elliot, Nelly, Ginuwine, Usher, Salt n Pepa, Snoop... My main character Tessa has the swagger with the ghosts, and I gotta channel that anyway I can, amiright?
I'm home sick today, but wanted to remind everyone that free reviewer copies of Miss Preston's Predicament are available through @booksprout for the next couple of weeks. Link in my profile. Scroll down to the "Booksprout reviewer copies." This was such a fun story to write, I know you'll have just as much fun reading.
Sometimes I get lost in the digital file and need to print the manuscript to get a better idea of what is happening and when. I could have done the usual 3-hole punch but it's been too long since I got to use my Levenger disc punch. I'm trying to dig myself out, if I'm to be honest... I have 7 openings to this story and they're all fine. One is better than the others, but the monumental amount of editing I have to do to sprinkle the pieces and parts from the alternate beginnings back into the story is overwhelming.
Happy holidays from your friendly neighborhood historical fantasy author, brought to you by puffed sleeves and a big red bow.
This is an excellent way to go into the weekend! The first review of my short story, Miss Preston's Predicament, is in. I'm so grateful this reader enjoyed it.
Happy Thursday. How are you?
Do you have things you rely on to trick your brain into solving problems?
