I thought it felt more fleshed out than Stardust, and had a completely different setting (Stardust is essentially pastoral, Neverwhere an underground urban mess). My only disappointment was that it felt very similar to Stardust (and this might be because my first book that I picked up by Neil was American Gods, followed by Sandman, Stardust, and Mirrormask, and I was expecting another very-original setting).
